Best free "science fiction" games

GAME SETTING – Deep-space exploration, alien invasions, gigantic mech battles, cyberpunk cities, time travel, and mysterious signals coming from somewhere you probably shouldn't investigate—science fiction has given video games an almost endless supply of ideas. Free games are no exception. Indie and freeware developers have explored everything from space opera and futuristic warfare to dystopian societies, artificial intelligence, extraterrestrial mysteries, and strange planets that are probably best left unvisited. Some games take inspiration from famous universes such as Star Trek or Star Wars, while others create completely original worlds filled with their own technology, aliens, and questionable scientific experiments. Whether you're piloting a spaceship, fighting robots, exploring distant planets, or simply trying to survive in a cyberpunk nightmare, sci-fi settings offer plenty of room for imagination. Fortunately, no faster-than-light drive is required to get started.
