Marathon 2: Durandal

Marathon 2: Durandal expands Bungie's science-fiction shooter with larger environments, more weapons, new enemies and an even more elaborate story. Players return to the universe of the original game, this time becoming entangled in the schemes of the increasingly unpredictable artificial intelligence Durandal. Exploration remains important, with sprawling levels, hidden areas and terminals providing both practical information and story details. The combat is fast and satisfying, but the narrative gives the game an unusual amount of personality for a shooter of its era. Durandal also demonstrates Bungie's growing confidence in level design and storytelling, making it a particularly important entry in the Marathon trilogy. If you like shooters with a little more brain behind the bullets, this one delivers.
