Caverns of Kroz

Apogee’s Caverns of Kroz (1989) is the digital equivalent of spelunking with a backpack full of dynamite. Armed with nothing but a whip and limited resources, you descend into treacherous caves filled with monsters, traps, and dead ends that seem specifically designed to ruin your day. The ASCII graphics are delightfully crude, but the gameplay is surprisingly sharp, forcing you to think on your feet and ration tools like a miser. Every level feels like a test of both reflex and planning, making victory deeply satisfying. It’s simple, it’s punishing, and it doesn’t care about your feelings—classic Apogee.
