Best free "horror" games

GAME SETTING – Vampires hiding in the darkness, zombies shambling through abandoned streets, haunted houses full of suspicious noises, and something breathing just a little too loudly behind you—horror games are designed to make you uncomfortable in all the right ways. Free games are no exception, offering everything from survival horror and psychological nightmares to creepy adventures, supernatural mysteries, and unapologetically ridiculous monster-slaying. Some rely on atmosphere and slowly building tension, while others prefer to throw a monster at your face when you least expect it. Expect dark corridors, unsettling sounds, limited ammunition, and doors that really should remain firmly closed. Horror games aren't necessarily about fighting everything you encounter; sometimes the smartest strategy is simply running away and hoping your character's legs are faster than whatever is chasing them. Play with the lights on if you like—we won't judge.
