Xargon

Xargon is a classic early-1990s platform game from Epic MegaGames, back when the company's idea of “epic” often involved a floppy disk and a remarkably colorful title screen. You control Malvineous, an adventurer exploring a strange alien world filled with enemies, traps and platforms that are presumably positioned by someone who does not particularly like you. The game combines traditional side-scrolling action with exploration, secrets and plenty of shooting. Its bright graphics and imaginative environments give it a distinctive personality compared with many darker platformers of the period. It may not have reached the fame of Epic's biggest releases, but Xargon is an enjoyable snapshot of the shareware era and a reminder of how much entertainment could fit into a very small download.
