Eschalon: Book I

Eschalon: Book I is a 2007 isometric role-playing game from Basilisk Games that deliberately recalls the classic PC RPGs of the 1990s. Players explore a large fantasy world, develop their character, fight enemies, complete quests, discover equipment, and gradually uncover the mysteries surrounding their past. The game emphasizes freedom and exploration rather than constantly pointing players toward the next objective, giving the adventure a pleasantly old-school sense of discovery. There is plenty of room for experimentation, and the world does not always care whether you are prepared. It is a rewarding experience for anyone who misses RPGs that trusted players to read clues, make decisions, and occasionally get spectacularly lost.
