An RPG (Role-Playing Game) is a video game in which the player controls one or more characters (a “party”) in a fictional world, often set in a fantasy or science fiction environment. Common features of RPGs include a main story with optional side quests, character development, and either turn-based or real-time combat. Many RPG terms, such as “armor class,” “alignment,” and “saving throws,” originate from pen-and-paper games like Dungeons & Dragons.
