One Must Fall: 2097
One Must Fall: 2097 is a futuristic fighting game where enormous combat robots settle their disagreements by punching each other into expensive pieces of machinery. Set in a dystopian future, it features a roster of customizable machines and pilots, each bringing different strengths to the arena. The gameplay combines traditional one-on-one fighting with robot-specific abilities, upgrades and tournament progression. Battles are fast, energetic and satisfyingly mechanical, with impacts that make the machines feel substantially heavier than ordinary fighting-game characters. The career mode adds a sense of progression as your chosen robot becomes stronger and more dangerous. It is a classic example of early PC fighting games getting creative with hardware, proving that you can absolutely solve workplace disputes with a hydraulic fist.
“It’s a futuristic game in which you control a huge robot and knock the snot out of other huge robots and hope you don’t fall (One must, you know). It’s pretty much the fighting game we’ve been wanting to play for years, and since nobody will make it for us… ” - Diversions Entertainment
Review by Game Hippo:
“One Must Fall 2097 (OMF) was released 1995. On February 10, 1999 we learned that OMF by Diversions Entertainment and published by Epic Mega Games became a freeware (was $39). So, here you download the registered CD version of OMF - and it's totally legal! In short, OMF is a 3D fighting game with blazing graphics and sounds. It consists of 10 Fighters, 5 Arenas, and 4 Tournaments.“
