Hero
Hero is a compact action-platformer from Daniel Remar, built around the simple but enduring pleasure of running through dangerous places while making increasingly large numbers of enemies regret getting in your way. The controls are straightforward, but the game gradually introduces tougher situations that demand a little more attention than the cheerful presentation might suggest. Like much of Remar's freeware work, it has a distinctive handmade personality and an impressive amount of polish for such a small project. There is no bloated skill tree, endless inventory or thirty-hour campaign here. Just action, exploration and enough hazards to keep your fingers busy. Sometimes that is all a good platform game really needs.
“Hero strives to recreate the feeling of old action exploration games - you get no map of the game worlds, so you may have to draw your own. It has six levels, eight awkward MIDI songs I sequenced in Jazz++, and some bonus features after you beat the game, including an extra difficult level.” - Daniel Remar
