Exile: Escape From the Pit

Exile: Escape From the Pit is a 1995 turn-based role-playing game from Spiderweb Software that begins with a rather unfortunate premise: the player is trapped in a vast underground world populated by hostile creatures, dangerous factions, and enough problems to keep an adventuring party busy for a very long time. Players create characters, explore, fight, complete quests, gather equipment, and gradually uncover the history of the subterranean realm. Its detailed world and open-ended design give it the feel of a classic computer RPG made for people who enjoy getting thoroughly lost. The graphics are simple, but the adventure is huge. Apparently, escaping from the pit was never intended to be a short commute.
