Best free "contemporary" games

GAME SETTING – Busy city streets, office buildings, suburban homes, political scandals, organized crime, and the occasional conspiracy that is probably not nearly as complicated as it first appears—modern life provides plenty of material for video games. Free games are no exception. Indie and freeware developers have explored contemporary settings in everything from crime adventures and realistic simulations to political satires, strategy games, and character-driven stories. Some titles focus on ordinary everyday situations, while others take the familiar modern world and push it into darker, stranger, or more exaggerated territory. You might investigate a murder, manage a business, survive a city full of criminals, or simply deal with the increasingly bizarre problems of everyday life. The appeal is partly the familiarity: there are no dragons or alien planets required when the real world already provides plenty of material for trouble.
