Ken's Labyrinth
Ken's Labyrinth is a first-person action game created by Ken Silverman, the programmer who would later become famous for developing the Build engine. Released in the early 1990s, the game sends you through maze-like environments filled with enemies, weapons and treasures, offering a glimpse of the technology that would eventually help shape a generation of PC shooters. The graphics are primitive by modern standards, but that is part of its appeal: this is an era when convincing 3D meant everyone was impressed that a wall could have texture at all. The gameplay is straightforward and fast enough to remain entertaining, while its historical importance makes it especially interesting to retro enthusiasts. Ken's Labyrinth is a charming snapshot of early PC first-person experimentation.
