Best free "action-adventure" games

GAME GENRE – Action-adventure games mix the excitement of action games with the exploration, storytelling, and problem-solving traditionally associated with adventures. They can take many forms: a platformer with an inventory and a story, an adventure game interrupted by plenty of fighting, or a sprawling exploration game where something unpleasant is usually waiting around the next corner. Players may explore unfamiliar locations, solve puzzles, collect useful (and occasionally completely useless) objects, interact with characters, and fight enemies along the way. Survival horror games, especially those played from a first-person perspective, are also often considered action-adventures. In short, the genre is for players who want a bit of everything: exploration, danger, puzzles, combat, and preferably enough ammunition to survive the consequences of opening that suspicious door.
