Xenophage: Alien Bloodsport

Xenophage: Alien Bloodsport is a fighting game with an appropriately ridiculous title and a cast of creatures that look as though someone opened a science-fiction monster catalogue and selected everything at random. Developed by Apogee Software, it offers one-on-one battles between bizarre alien combatants, each equipped with their own attacks and abilities. The game belongs firmly to the mid-1990s PC fighting-game era, when developers were enthusiastically trying to bring arcade-style combat to home computers. Matches are fast, colorful and occasionally wonderfully strange, with the alien theme giving the game a personality all its own. It may not have the refinement of the biggest console fighters of the period, but Xenophage is exactly the sort of eccentric DOS-era curiosity that makes exploring old PC games so much fun.
