Free iOS "dungeon crawl" games

Dungeon crawling was at the heart of some of the earliest computer RPGs, with games built around exploring dark mazes, fighting monsters, collecting treasure, and trying not to get hopelessly lost. During the 1980s and early 1990s, the genre evolved from primitive, roguelike-style adventures into increasingly sophisticated experiences, often using clever 2D graphics to create the illusion of 3D environments. Classics such as Dungeon Master, Eye of the Beholder, Wizardry, and Might and Magic helped define the golden age of dungeon crawlers and became landmarks of PC RPG history. The genre eventually changed as true real-time 3D games such as Wolfenstein 3D and Doom raised expectations, while titles like Ultima Underworld began blending dungeon exploration with more fluid first-person gameplay. The dark maze survived, but it was getting a serious graphical upgrade.
