Fairy tales are supposed to be magical, but Cinderella Phenomenon (2017, Dicesuki) asks: what if they were also cursed? This visual novel twists the classic tropes by turning princesses and princes into complicated, flawed humans stuck in a web of enchantments. Instead of waiting for a fairy godmother, you get branching choices, romance routes, and enough drama to fuel a palace gossip column. The writing is sharp, the art beautiful, and the themes surprisingly dark for a story involving ballgowns. It’s charming, yes, but it also makes you question whether “happily ever after” comes with fine print.
