An RPG (acronym for Role Playing Game) is a video game where the player can control one or more characters (a "party") in a fictional world, usually in a fantasy or science fiction environment. Typical features of RPGs are: a main story and, often, side quests, character development, turn-based or real-time combat. Many terms used in RPG games, such as "armor class", "alignment", "saving throws" come from pen-and-paper games (i.e. Dungeons & Dragons).
